How long have you been CrossFitting? How/Why did you start?
WOOHOO! Just celebrated my 6 month CrossFitiversary – BOOM! I started last year, I believe my first week the workout was 12 Days of Christmas – #WOW #insane – I started CrossFit because I was looking to do something different. I am an NASM-CPT and P90x/Insanity Certified, however I was ready to challenge myself in a whole new way and gain strength. I am also a sucker for community and I knew that CF has a reputation for an amazing camaraderie.
Favorite types or kind workout(s)?
Those that challenge me mentally and physically. I love cardio mixed with strength training
Proudest Accomplishment in CrossFit so far?
-ROPE CLIMB – YAASSSS!
-Triple Digit Cleans –
What’s your next CF goal?
Kipping Pull-Ups (without band)
What was your biggest misconception/or do you think is the biggest misconception about CrossFit?
I believe there are a few: 1. Myth #1: you must be a SUPERSTAR athlete TRUTH: you can start at any fitness level and with proper coaching you will progress and improve. ☺ Myth #2: As a woman, if I do CrossFit, I’ll get bulky TRUTH: I feel bad to admit I thought this – one, unless you are training to be a SUPER athlete on a very specific diet – you are NOT going to bulk up. CrossFit will make you stronger, leaner, and more fit than you have probably been in your life – NOT to mention, your kids (and friends) will probably think it’s cool when you are able to do headstands everywhere and have amazing muscles while doing so!
Who are you when you are not at the gym?
I am a Jesus loving, Stay-at-Home, Work-at-Home, Mom and Wifey. I am passionate about encouraging and empowering other women to live life Without Rival – we live in a society full of comparison, however, we are all uniquely made for a specialized purpose, which is, WITHOUT RIVAL! I love to watch people excel and conquer things they thought impossible. AND, I am passionate about giving back – I believe God blessed me with life experiences and resources, that in turn, I am to use to pour into others.
How has CFNG impacted your life outside of the gym?
Outside of the gym, I feel much stronger and have a lot more energy – Mentally, I feel FABULOUS after a good workout, and CFNG has had a positive effect on my emotional health. I am able to release stress and clear my mind – BAM! Lastly, before I started CF I struggled with severe back and neck pain due to an injury about 1.5 yrs ago. I am so excited to report that I no longer have that pain – I truly believe it was because I have been using the proper muscles and not compromising daily movements anymore. THANKS, CFNG ❤ Narrow Gate is EXTREMELY special to me. I am very active in women’s ministry and to know that Narrow Gate was named after a Bible verse in the book of Matthew is quite inspiring. I have an AWESOME testimony that happened during 12pm class one day – I will share it one day. ☺
You are a regular in the early ams, what motivates you to get going that early?
Well, I WAS an AM regular, however, I really wanted to meet EVERYONE so I started changing my schedule around to make it to the different times – I LOVE building relationships with like minded people. BUT, to answer the question, I have 3 kids (2, 4, & 8) so in the best interest of my family, I workout EARLY! Plus, I truly believe it is a GREAT start to the day – get your endorphins and dopamine flowing. ☺ I’m a firm believer the way you start your day, shapes your day!
What advice would you give to someone just starting at CFNG?
Take it slow – DO NOT try and get ahead of yourself, even if you think you are stronger. FORM is extremely important. Learn the movements, then build.
Anything you’d like to share about CFNG??
I have never been a member of a gym that I truly feel involved with, however, I AM NOW! CFNG is seriously THE BEST! The coaches, the members, the workouts, the gym, the kids, and atmosphere – they have NAILED IT! #BLESSED OHHHH…. Last thing, CFNG is probably the CLEANEST GYM I have EVER been to!
